Magnetic North Industry Series 2012; Calgary, Alberta – June 17 to 20
Magnetic North Theatre Festival; June 13 – 23, 2012
The Magnetic North Theatre Festival is the premiere festival of contemporary Canadian theatre. Like the Magnetic North Pole, the festival shifts location and travels around the country every other year, treating Canadians to excellence in English theatre from every corner of Canada. In 2012, the festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in Calgary; we will host 8 professional productions, an Encounter’s Stage featuring the work of three Calgary companies in collaboration with Downstage’s Uprising Festival, a myriad of activities in and around the EPCOR CENTRE, Compass Points for Students and Emerging Artists and our ever popular Industry Series.
Magnetic North Industry Series & Presenter’s Window; June 17 to 20, 2012
Magnetic North attracts theatre professionals from across Canada and around to world to engage in dialogue, networking, and the exchange of ideas. Between June 17 and 20 you can experience all of the mainstage shows during the Presenter’s Window and attend the Industry Series – which includes a program of discussions, gatherings and events that focus on activities relevant to Canadian theatre practitioners. For four days during the festival, the Industry Series gathers together artists, presenters and producers in all stages of their careers to share, debate and initiate relationships for potential collaborations. This year, the Industry Series will open on Sunday, June 17 with an informal meet and greet.
Pitch Session; June 18, 2012
The Pitch Sessions will move to the start of the Industry Series when eight new projects will be introduced to an audience of programmers, presenters and fellow artists. The Pitch Session is an ideal opportunity for artists to showcase their ideas and their projects and find collaborators who can take their project to the next level or extend touring opportunities for their shows. Attended by producers, presenters, Artistic Directors, festival curators, and other industry representatives, the pitches are a vehicle to inspire and educate your peers about your work. The pitches will take place in One Yellow Rabbit’s Big Secret Theatre so we encourage theatricality in your presentation. There will be a rehearsal the on June 17 to allow for feedback and revisions, if required. Eight Projects will be selected by a committee comprised of AD Brenda Leadlay, MD Ann Connors and Industry Series Producers, Ghost River Theatre.
