Workshop: MUSIC THEATRE MONTREAL presents: a Performing Arts Workshop

by QDF

An intensive musical theatre workshop you don’t want to miss!

Sunday, November 4th, 2012 – 9am to 5pm

Next month Music Theatre Montreal is hosting a singing, dancing and acting workshop featuring 3 of Montreal’s top musical theatre professionals. Corey Castle for acting (The King and I, The Music Man, Cabaret, Blokes), Lorna Wayne for dance (Jesus Christ Super Star, The Pajama Game, On Second Avenue) and Elizabeth Koch-Hansen for voice (who’s former students are all over Broadway, including Aaron Tveit; Next to Normal, Hairspray, Wicked, Catch Me If You Can, and now Enroljas in the movie of Les Mis.).

The focus of the workshop is to give Montreal artists an opportunity to develop their musical theatre skills.  Participants will learn to combine active intentions with song and dance, and walk away with tools they can utilize in creating a truthful musical theatre performance.

This workshop is geared towards emerging and professional artists who are looking to broaden and strengthen their performance skills. It is designed for individuals who are currently training as performers who may or may not have prior experience in all three fields but have at least 2 years of training in at least one of the areas (either singing, dancing or acting). Participants will participate in all three discipline blocks and have a chance to showcase their acquired knowledge at the end of the day.  Subsequently, our instructors will provide participants with details of what they look for in musical theatre auditions and performances.

Music Theatre Montreal is a stepping stone organization for those who are pursuing a career in the arts. We provide outreach programs that include free previews for theatre/music educators and students, discounted shows for educational institutes, and development workshops. We are a federally registered not-for-profit organization that fosters open involvement and collaboration.

Call for Submissions: Le Spotlight 2011, Montreal’s Musical Theatre Challenge

by QDF

Get ready for the city’s most exciting night of musical theatre on Wednesday evening, June 1 at the Gesù Theatre in downtown Montreal.  Le Spotlight: Montreal’s Musical Theatre Challenge is the fifth edition of this celebration of local performing excellence, sponsored by the Centre for Education and Theatre in Montreal (CETM).

INCREASING THE VISIBILITY OF MONTREAL-BASED TALENT

Applications are now being accepted for the fifth edition of Le Spotlight.  The deadline to apply is February 28, 2011.  For details on how to apply go to www.lespotlight.ca.

This year, only eight Montreal-area performers will be selected during a round of preliminary auditions to be held at CETM in March.  The judging panel will include CETM founder Stephen Pietrantoni,  theatre director Corey Castle, and a guest judge from the local professional theatre community.

For the final event on June 1, each of the eight finalists will have just four minutes alone on stage to demonstrate acting, singing and movement skills before a panel of professional judges and a live audience.  The winner will be featured in the Next Wave Festival of New Musicals coming in August.

A LIVE ORCHESTRA

All performers will appear with a live 11-piece orchestra.  The list of final judges for the competition will be released at a later date.

Again this year, those present in the audience will be given the opportunity to vote for their favourite performer.

Tickets are $25 (all taxes and facility fees included), and may be obtained at the Gesu box office (514-861-4036).  Student/senior rates are available.

Venue:  Gesù Theatre – 1200 Bleury  Metro:  Place d’Armes

More information about the competition is available from Le Spotlight’s official website:  www.lespotlight.ca.
